Oak Staircase

Oak Staircase

Stone Forest cottages come with amazing charm, and sometimes inherited troubles. This project was about working closely with the client to bring new stairs to the heart of their home. The old stair was rotten through, pressed against damp plasterwork and the bare earth of the original unfinished part of the kitchen floor. The old stair was completely removed, plaster cut back, floor finished and tiled. Then, working with the client stripping back and lime mortaring their own stonework. A beautiful new oak stringer staircase was then designed and built. This was created with a new winder to bring the angle of ascent in line with current building practice. To achieve this in the compact space the ceiling height above the stair was raised and a new landing floor created. To finish off the project we made a dog stair gate in the same oak.
